SCHEFFLER SAILS TO CAUTION FREE, OUTAGAMIE OPENER LATE MODEL WIN

ATTENTION SPORTS/MOTORSPORTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(SEYMOUR, WI) May 9 – Waukesha's Taylor Scheffler survived a late race surge by Bonduel's Nick Anvelink and went on to win the caution free, 20 lap late model feature on opening night at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday.

Scheffler outraced fellow front row starter Joe Bongiorno at the drop of the green, and immediately built up a sizeable margin over Justin Schmidt and the balance of the field.

Anvelink, who started sixth, fought his way up to 2nd on lap 14. As Scheffler got bottled up with lapped traffic in the waning laps, Anvelink chewed away at Scheffler's margin, catching him and at the checkers but coming up just short at the line. Anvelink, Schmidt, Mike Mullen and Chris Oertel finished second through fifth, respectively.

Suamico's Johnny Whitman picked up the caution free, 20 lap IMCA modified feature.

Whitman started sixth on the grid, and immediately motored towards the front where he challenged polesitter Adam Abbey and Jayden Schmidt in a three car duel for the lead. Whitman wrestled the top spot away from Schmidt on lap 13, and steadily built a comfortable cushion in the final circuits to score the win.
Schmidt finished second, followed by Marcus Yarie, Abbey and Dylon Waldvogel.

Sobieski's Nick Buckarma grabbed the lead on a restart with six laps to go, and fought off a fast closing Austin Jansen to snag the feature flag in the IMCA stock car class.

Buckarma started seventh at the drop of the green, and steadily moved his way into the top five in the first five circuits, and a few laps later bolted into the top three. On a lap 14 restart, Buckarma scampered past frontrunners Jeff Kropp and Chase Parker. Buckarma went the distance, and was never headed when the checkers flew.

Jansen, who started in the fifth row, mounted a late race charge but came up short at the pay window placing second. Parker, Kropp and Eric Arneson rounded out the top five finishers.

Appleton's Cory Kemkes fired the opening night salvo in the IMCA northern sportmod class, winning that division's feature.

Kemkes threaded his way into the lead from his 4th starting spot, whisking past polesitter Cole Slezewski into the lead on lap four. Kemkes built a comfortable cushion and skillfully weaved his way through lapped traffic to secure the win. Ryan Schmidt came up second, with J.J. Vander Loop, Dylan Schmidt and Slezewski finishing third through fifth, respectively.

Hortonville's Trey Van Straten came out on top of a four car tussle up front pretty much all contest long, winning the Unified Dirt street stock main.
The win for the second-generation driver was anything but a gimme, however. Van Straten fought off a stiff challenge all contest long by Paul and Jacob Ambrosius, along with Tony Everard. Van Straten masterfully navigated multiple lapped cars towards to end to seal the deal.

Oshkosh's Cody Booth led every lap en route to victory in the IMCA sport compact main event. With the exception of an aborted start, the contest went wire-to-wire without a yellow once the green flag was dropped.

A total of 161 cars showed up to compete on opening night. The field included 21 street stocks, 33 IMCA northern sportmods, 40 IMCA stock cars, 17 late models, 26 IMCA modifieds and 24 IMCA northern sport compacts.

Next Friday, May 16, Outagamie Speedway will host Police, Fire & Emergency Services Night at the races. All police, fire & emergency services personnel will receive free grandstand admission.

The Vetting Customs street stocks will battle for a $600 top prize. Professional Plating Inc IMCA MODIFIEDS, Monroe Truck Equipment & K&E Sales IMCA STOCK CARS, Trailer Express LLC IMCA NORTHERN SPORTMODS, Vetting Custom Rigs & Rides UNIFIED DIRT STREET STOCKS and Midwest Equipment Dock and Lift Services IMCA SPORT COMPACTS will be in action.
