YARIE COPS OUTAGAMIE MODS; WENZEL WINS STOCK CAR BATTLE & WAR (DeMars first time sportmod winner as champions crowned in all divisions).
(SEYMOUR, WI) Aug. 22 – Wausau's Marcus Yarie executed a three-wide pass for the lead on lap 12 and went on to win the Professional Plating Inc IMCA modified feature at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday.
Tonight was the final points night of racing at the third-mile, clay oval. Champions were crowned in the respective divisions and they were Suamico's Johnny Whitman (IMCA modified), Manitowoc's Brett Wenzel (IMCA stock car), Hortonville's Ryan Schmidt (IMCA northern sportmod), Hortonville's Trey Van Straten (Unified Dirt Street Stock) and Oshkosh's Cody Booth (IMCA sport compact).
Yarie started sixth in the 20 lap contest, and bided his time in the early laps, bouncing between the third and fourth positions while trying to track down early race leader and polesitter Kevin Feck, Track champion Johnny Whitman snatched the lead with a three-wide pass of his own on a lap eight restart. With eight laps remaining, Yarie snuck inside of Whitman and Feck for the lead and was never headed the rest of the way. The victory was Yarie's 65th career IMCA modified victory. Whitman hung on for second, while Beaver Dam's Dan Roedl rallied late to score a third place finish. Feck and Jayden Schmidt took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Heading into the Monroe Truck Equipment and K&E Sales IMCA stock car finale, Manitowoc's Brett Wenzel held a 13 point edge over former national champion Rod Snellenberger of Pulaski. However, when the green flag dropped, any thoughts of Wenzel taking it easy were quickly dismissed. Polesitter Jeff Nowak marched into the lead at the drop of the green of the 20 lap feature, but his lead was short-lived as Hortonville's Chase Parker wrestled the top spot away from Nowak on the second circuit. Snellenberger, who started ahead of Wenzel in row five, quickly bolted into the fourth spot a few laps into the contest, moving into third by lap ten. On lap 12 Parker's luck went
sour, as the leader hit the wall and stalled, drawing a yellow. Green Bay veteran Eric Mahlik inherited the lead, but Wenzel had stormed into third on the restart, and on lap 15 blew past the second place Snellenberger and Mahlik for the lead. Wenzel would wind up capturing the feature, with Snellenberger, Daniel Sell Jr, former national champion Travis Van Straten and Nowak placing second through fifth, respectively.
Green Bay's Tyler DeMars passed Tanner Pari for the lead on lap three and sweated out numerous caution periods, and held on to win his first Trailer Express IMCA Northern Sportmod feature here. Pari wound up second at the pay window, followed by Cole Slezewski, Max Oreskovich and Kaden Besaw.
Hortonville's Trey Van Straten had already had the street stock title locked up earlier in the night prior to that division's feature. The second-generation driver carefully threaded his way through the pack from his 12th starting spot and inherited the lead with four laps to go when leader Shannon Guelette suffered a flat tire, ending his night. Van Straten held the top spot and won the feature. Trailing Van Straten at the checkers were Jacob Ambrosius, Paul Diefenthaler, Mitch Meyerhofer and Brian Gundrum.
Clintonville's Tucker Pari passed Kyle Jorgenson for the lead on lap three and went on to win the Midwest Equipment Dock and Lift Services IMCA sport compact feature.
Racing resumes next Friday, August 29 with a non-points night of racing. All the track's regular, weekly divisions will be in action. Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. For additional information, you can follow our Facebook page or check out our website outagamiespeedway.com..
