MIKE MULLEN DOUBLES UP ON OUTAGAMIE LATE MODEL, STOCK WINS

ATTENTION SPORTS/MOTORSPORTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Seymour, Wisconsin) June 6 – Hometown driver Mike Mullen gave the locals plenty to cheer about at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday.

The second-generation driver not only pulled off feature wins in two divisions (late model and IMCA stock car). Mullen also scored heat wins in both classes, earning clean sweeps in both respective divisions.

Mullen wasn't the only driver where track officials cracked out the broom, as others nabbed clean sweeps in their respective divisions. Hortonville's Trey Van Straten (Unified street stock), Seymour's Konnor Wilinski (IMCA modified) and Clintonville's Max Oreskovich (IMCA northern sportmod) also pulled off the same feat.

In the 20 lap late model main, Mullen surrendered the early lead to fellow front row starter Nick Anvelink at the drop of the green. Anvelink led much of the early going, with Mullen staying within striking distance in second. When Anvelink got bottled up in lapped traffic, Mullen snuck up on Anvelink, catching him and passing him at the event's halfway point. Anvelink suffered a cut tire, and after a lap 11 restart, Mullen assumed the lead and never surrendered the top spot the balance of the contest.

Joel Bennett, Brett Swedberg, Justin Schmidt and Jayden Schmidt placed second through fourth, respectively.

With no time to waste, Mullen jumped out of his late model and promptly buckled into his stock car to scrap for the $1,000 top prize. Mullen started eighth on the grid, and slipped through the field to take second place by lap seven behind leader Travis Van Straten. Mullen motored past the former IMCA national champion to snag the lead on lap nine.

While Mullen kept all challengers at bay, Van Straten had his hands full, duking it out with another former national champion, Rod Snellenberger in the battle for second. When the checkers flew, Mullen scored his second feature win of the night. Van Straten would claim second place money at the pay window, followed by Snellenberger, Chase Parker and yet a third former national IMCA stock car champion, Brandon Czarapata.

Wilinski's IMCA modified victory was anything but a gimme. The hometown driver started fifth in the contest, and stayed in the top five, running the high side through a pair of early yellows. Beaver Dam's Skyler Woods and Daniel Wilcox had battled up front, trading the lead while Wilinski waited patiently behind the duo, waiting for the right time to make his move.

Wilinski snatched the lead on lap seven, and fought through a pair of late race yellows and a late race surge by Schmidt in the waning laps to secure the “W”. Schmidt, Dan Roedl, Johnny Whitman and Brian Mullen placed second through fifth, respectively.

The IMCA northern sportmod feature had no less than five different leaders during the event. Polesitter James Bohm, Grant Besaw and Robert Wittkopf all traded the top spot while Oreskovich bided his time riding around in the top five. Oreskovich grabbed the lead at the race's halfway point, and would trade the top spot with Wittkopf no less than three times before the checkers flew. Wittkopf settled for second, followed by Ryan Schmidt, Coy Vlies and Besaw.

Trey Van Straten started deep in the field (row six) and fought off Paul Diefenthaler to take the street stock feature. Green Bay's Brett Deprez emerged triumphant in the IMCA sport compact main event.

There will be no racing next Friday, June 13 as the Mackville Nationals truck pulls will be held at the track. However, action resumes Friday, June 20 as the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprint cars will roll into town.
Action begins at 6:30 p.m. You can check outagamiespeedway.com for additional information.
